I recently played and completed Crow Country a lo-fi horror game with atmospheric design which bypassed modern hyper-realism to embrace the chunky, wobbling charm of the 32-bit era. By authentically replicating that signature PS1 jitter where surfaces warp as you move - and utilizing chibi-esque character proportions reminiscent of Final Fantasy VII, the game taps into a powerful sense of uncanny nostalgia. These technical limitations, paired with soft lighting and fixed-ish camera angles, allow the player’s imagination to fill in the gruesome details of the abandoned theme park, proving that a strong, low-poly art direction can be far more evocative than 4K textures. Here are screenshots of my playthrough!
